Spring Bank Arts in New Mills hosts its first piano weekend

Jazz, classical and children’s music will be aired at a new event celebrating the piano.

Spring Bank Arts in New Mills is hosting its first piano weekend on June 6 and 7.

Events kick off on Saturday with the much-loved Brahms Clarinet Trio, and a Beethoven trio for the same combination of clarinet, piano and cello performed by Rosa Campos-Fernandez, clarinet, Dale Culliford, cello and Paul Janes, on piano.

Jazz dominates the Saturday night concert which is entitled The Gershwin Songbook. Dan Whieldon will play piano, Carl Raven will be on saxophone and Pete Turner on bass to perform their own arrangements of these wonderful songs, including Summertime and ‘I loves you Porgy from 7.30pm.

To complete the weekend there is have a free Sunday afternoon concert at 3pm entitled Back inTime with Music performed by talented young local cellists and pianists.

This concert will be a time-travel experience featuring the world-premiere performance of Snap-Shots for piano, by the renowned Italian composer, Simone Fontanelli.
