Screening of cinematic great

LENI Riefenstahl’s controversial documentary of the Berlin Summer Olympics of 1936 is to be screened at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre.

Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations will be shown on Wednesday June 27, at 7.30pm.

The documentary is controversial because the Nazi government, who planned the Games as a propaganda event, sponsored it.

Her record is also a cinematic landmark and marks a breakthrough in the filming of outdoor sporting events.

Black American athlete Jesse Owens is the sporting star of the show in what remains an epic celebration of the human body as well as a political and cinematic landmark.

Tickets for the screening are £4.
