NEW MILLS Band concluded their bicentenary celebrations with a concert given to a full capacity audience in New Mills Town Hall on Saturday September 8.

The band, under their Musical Director Brian Cox, played music by composers such as Sousa, Cimarosa and Mozart, songs from America, choruses from The Last Night of the Proms in which the audience joined in, and solo percussionist Sam Lomas Cox played “Fascinating Drums”.

Also of interest was a piece called ‘Excelsior’ from the hymn tune ‘Ransom’ arranged by Paul Lovatt-Cooper.

The piece was commissioned as a gift to mark the service that New Mills Band has given to the community over the past two centuries.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Male Voice Choir, under the direction of Roger Briscoe, added to the celebrations with songs ranging from musicals to Welsh hymn tunes.

It was a wonderful evening, thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, choir and musicians.
