Derbyshire Singers will be performing English works spanning three centuries at their Spring concert.
Two pieces for choir and brass by contemporary English composers, Bob Chilcott’s ‘Jubilate’ and Jonathan Willcocks’ ‘Magnificat’ combine wonderful harmonies with subtle changes of mood - and some good tunes!
Featured alongside them will be the majestic ‘Funeral Sentences’ by Purcell, composed for the funeral of Queen Mary II.
The concert at Highfields School, Matlock, on Saturday, March 21. will open with ‘I was Glad’ by Parry.
Ten-piece ensemble Harlequin Brass will accompany the choir and entertain with pieces of their own.
Completing the programme will be rising star soprano Catriona Hewitson who will perform songs by Purcell and Howells.
Tickets are available at £15 (concessions £12) from Natural Choice, Ashbourne (tel. 01335 346096), the Information Centre at Matlock Station or online at www.derbyshiresingers.org.
