Fancy releasing your inner creative self?
A series of workshops designed to do just that will launch at The Studios in New Mills this month.
First up is Introduction to Mosaics which starts on February 28.
At this hands-on workshop, Deborah Pitman will guide you through how to make a mosaic of your own design using glass tiles. Students will complete a 30cm x30cm mosaic, on plywood, suitable for indoor display.
Deborah has been making and exhibiting mosaic work for over 20 years. Her practice has evolved with periods of study in Ravenna and Venice, the world-renowned homes of mosaic excellence.
Following a career in sound engineering at the BBC, the training skills Deborah learned are now transferred to mosaic techniques.
The art of mosaic offers rich opportunities for creativity through light, colour and texture. All tools and materials are supplied, along with the essentials of tea, coffee and biscuits.
The Introduction to Mosaics course, which can be done in a day or over three evening sessions, costs £85 per person.
Lynn Bannister launches the Introduction to Pastel Painting workshop at The Studios on Tuesday, March 3.
In a series of informal and friendly workshops, made up of six parts or three-part modules you will be introduced to the materials you need to get started and learn the basic principles of painting such as value, colour and composition.
Lyn is a contemporary artist working across media including painting, photography and installation.
Originally starting her career as a pastel artist, she returned to education in 2009 and gained a BA with Honours First Class in Fine Art in 2011. This has had a profound impact on her working methods and choice of media; however, she still finds great pleasure in sharing with others the techniques and possibilities of painting with pastel.
The cost is £135 for full course, £75 per module.
Adventures in Collage, led by Jo Orme, starts on Saturday, March 14.
This course (total ten hours) is split into two modules and will teach you two different skills, give you time to play and experiment with the materials and give you the confidence to edit and compose your work.
Jo studied Fine Art at Camberwell College of Art, London in 1994. She uses a variety of techniques and media to create her work. It is the ‘texture’, ‘assemblage’ and ‘composition’ that give the work a sculptural quality, whilst the ‘colour’, ‘mark making’ and ‘metaphor’ complete the work. She has exhibited in London and Derbyshire.
The cost of Adventures in Collage is £25 per session, £47 per module, £90 full course.
