A new Christmas carol written by a classical musician will be performed for the first time in Hayfield this weekend.
Robin Wallington, a recent graduate of Manchester Grammar School and a student of conducting and composition at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, composed the carol after being approached by Tricia Howitt, director of the Hayfield Singers.
Robin plays the organ, piano, cello and trumpet, following in the footsteps of his parents, who are both professional musicians.
He will play the obligato trumpet part in the carol which will be performed in public for the first time at the Hayfield Singers’ Christmas concert at St Matthew’s Church, Hayfield, on Sunday, December 14, at 7.30 pm.
The rest of the programme includes Vivaldi’s Gloria, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols and carols old and new.
Tickets cost £8 (£6 concessions) and are available from 01663 746413 or on the door.
