Curtain to rise on new film season

Glossop’s community cinema, Peak Film Society, has unveiled its 2013/2014 programme, which opens on Saturday September 21 with the Oscar-winning thriller Argo.

Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, Argo is set during the 1980 US hostage crisis in Iran.

The full season of films is: Argo (Sep 21); Untouchable (Oct 12); Late Quartet (Nov 16); Take this Waltz (December 14); Life of Pi (Jan 18); Les Miserables (Feb 8); Mud (Mar 8); In the House (March 29); Kill Your Darlings (April 26); Lincoln (May 7).

Screenings are held in the Partington Theatre, Henry Street, Glossop, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) per screening, or £27.50 (£23) for all ten films. Half-season memberships are also available, priced £19.50 (£16.50).

• Cinema at the Pavilion Arts Centre in Buxton continues on Sunday with 2012 epic fantasy adventure The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey. This is followed on Sunday September 1 by the historical drama Lincoln, starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
