Hayfield Singers will once again feature carols written by local composers in their Christmas concert.
The performance will be dedicated to their former musical director Tricia Howitt, who passed away in October
after 22 years leading the group.
Two songs from dramatically different origins will frame the choir’s 2015 Christmas concert, which will be held on Sunday, December 13, at St Matthew’s Church, Hayfield, at 7.30pm.
The first, O Radiant Dawn, is composed by Sir James Macmillan, the distinguished composer and former conductor of the Salford-based BBC Philharmonic, who is also patron of the Hayfield Singers.
The second, The Christmas Spirit, has been written by Dave Dunford, the choir’s current chairman, who describes himself as “an amateur dabbler in composition”.
The choir, accompanied by professional musicians from orchestras in the area, will also perform excerpts from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, a range of carols and My Spirit Sang All Day by Gerald Finzi, a favourite of Tricia’s.
Tickets are available from any choir member, on the door, or by phoning Chris on 01663 746413.
