THE HIGHLIGHT of Buxton and High Peak Art Society’s calendar got underway last weekend.
An annual display of members’ work, on a range of themes and in various media, opened at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday and will continue at the Terrace Road gallery until January 14, 2012.
In conjunction with the start of the exhibition, the society also unveiled its annual awards. The honour of Artist of the Year went to Buxton’s Linda Rolland for her watercolour ‘Winter Light’. Another watercolour ‘Mists of Time’, by Albert Warrington, from Whaley Bridge, received the The Waller Trophy.
Maureen Howard, Liz Greenfield and Anne Parsonson were all highly commended.
Established almost 50 years ago, Buxton & High Peak Art Society meets each Monday in Dove Holes, where members can paint in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, or chat and exchange skills and ideas.
A programme of workshops and demonstrations by professional artists is always well-attended, and interested visitors are always made welcome.
Buxton Museum and Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am-5.30pm; and Saturday, 9.30am-5pm. Admission is free.
