Wainwright signs for Derbyshire

DAVID Wainwright has joined Derbyshire CCC on a two-year contract after leaving Yorkshire.

The 26-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder joined the Falcons on loan midway through the 2011 season only to be swiftly recalled by the Tykes before playing a game.

Wainwright made 22 appearances for Yorkshire in all competitions during the season, taking 25 wickets. But he activated a release clause in his contract recently, prior to agreeing a deal with Derbyshire.

Capped by the White Rose in 2010, Wainwright has taken 82 first-class wickets in 33 appearances including two five-wicket hauls.

He also boasts an impressive economy rate in the limited-overs forms of the game and with the bat he has two first-class hundreds and a career average of 35.54.

Head Coach Karl Krikken said: “We are delighted with the opportunity to sign a player of David’s quality and experience.

“First team opportunities have sometimes been limited for him at Yorkshire. But the move to Derbyshire will increase his chances of playing more regular cricket and I expect David to become an important player for us in all forms of the game.”
