The Buxton Advertiser is this year running a Player of the Year award for Buxton FC and it’s now time to get voting.
All you need to do is e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with your choice of player before Monday, April 11 and the winner will be presented with the trophy at the final home game of the season against Hyde United on April 16.
Votes can only go to players still at the club, but despite a few high profile departures there are still plenty of current Bucks who could get the nod.
So who are the main contenders?
One player likely to receive support is left-back Jamie Green, the club’s longest-serving player who is not only a reliable defender but also contributes to the team’s forward play with his corner-kicks, free-kicks and supporting runs on the left flank.
Then there is striker Bradley Barraclough, who has played consistently well over the past few months culminating in a match-winning recent performance versus Stamford and plenty of goals throughout the campaign.
And what about the claims of veterans Ricky Ravenhill and Greg Young? Their value to the team was shown in their recent absence as their oft-overlooked contributions were much missed.
Finally, consider the claims of three players in their first Silverlands season.
The superbly athletic and versatile defender Joel Bembo-Leta has become a firm favourite while young midfielders Niall Doran and Alex Wiles have both done well with the opportunities offered them.
