Teenage dream for Moss junior as he takes on Hitmen hot seat

Moss, 18, is currently sidelined from racing due to injury and has been around speedway for many years with both mum, Jayne, and dad, Richard, chairman of the club.

Moss junior has helped in various jobs around the club and although young in years believes he has the necessary experience the role requires.

He said: “Age is just a number and won’t affect my capabilities as a team manager because I really have been around the sport all of my life and have a lot of experience, even though I’m only 18 years old.

“I think a lot of people feel that being a team manager is a difficult job that takes up a lot of time, but if you enjoy doing something it’s a pleasure and not a chore, and speedway is something I enjoy being involved with.

“On race day I’ll be there to make sure they know what heats the lads are in and gate positions as well as giving them encouragement and offer advice during meetings, because it is extremely important to relay information to the riders and keep them informed of the scores, especially when it’s close.

“I’m looking to get some young lads in for 2018 and give them the experience of racing and hopefully we can bring a youthful look for the club next season both on and off the track.”

And added: “Overall I’m really happy to be taking charge of the team and excited to be getting a chance to do something I really enjoy and would like nothing more than to be successful in it, but I’m fully aware of how hard it is going to be as it will be difficult to compete with clubs that can make more attractive offers to riders.

“We will of course do our best to gain a competitive side within our budget and I hope riders will look at past riders the club has brought through that we gave the opportunities to in the past, and see how successful they have been since they have moved on.”

Hitmen chairman Jayne Moss added: “Josh has been around here all his life and done virtually all the jobs he can do around the club and it is a natural progression for him to take over as team manager. He is enthusiastic and level-headed and I’m sure he will do a good job for the club.”
