Buxton’s Eddy Holland helps Norton claim British and Irish Tug of War Championship Crown for England.

Norton Tug of War Club were this weekend successful at the British and Irish Tug of War Championships that were this year hosted by the Welsh Tug of War Association in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, Wales. The competition saw Norton represent England “A” in the mens 600kg weight class. The event saw Norton coming up against A and B squads from Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland in their bid for the gold medal.

Norton, representing England A got off to a convincing start, defeating the Northern Ireland A team, who won the event in 2015 early on in the competition, and this set them off for a good run in the competition where they finished top of the round robin competition without losing any points.

In the semi finals, England A met the Republic of Ireland A team and came away with a convincing 2 ends to 0 win to progress to the final. In the final, England A met Northern Ireland A for the second time in the competition after Northern Ireland had defeated the England B squad in the semi final.

Both England A and Northern Ireland A had a titanic battle at the 2015 championships, however 2016 was a completely different match up. Whilst Northern Ireland took gold in 2015, England were not to be denied this time and took the gold medal by 2 ends to 0 in convincing fashion.
