Disley 1st XI’s promising start to the season continued with a two-wicket win at Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge on Saturday which keeps them on the cusp of the promotion places in Division Three of the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League.

Pacemen Jake Reynolds (4-34) and Toby Carson (3-27) toiled manfully to help restrict the hosts to 141-9, a total which was surpassed thanks to a patient knock from opener James Banner who hit the winning runs to finish unbeaten on 47.

This set the standard for a weekend where all of Disley’s sides went unbeaten.

The 2nd XI clung on for a draw in their home fixture against Aston on Saturday, while the Disley Amalgamated Sports Club also hosted two fixtures on Sunday which were both won by the Rams.

In the morning the under-15s completed an impressive victory over Stockport, scoring 113-4 as Henry Clark (40 not out) and Ned Barlow (40 not out) found form with the bat. The visitors were then reduced to 8-5 in reply and finally bowled out for 87 to cap a fine all-round display.

A high-scoring Sunday friendly against Lymm then concluded the weekend’s action.

Disley amassed an imposing 194 all-out, Jamie Pollard top-scoring with a breezy 41, but the visitors matched them shot for shot until finishing just short on 181-7.
