Division 4 East
Tyldesley 3rd XV 7
Hope Valley 1st XV 65
Hope Valley secured a 65-7 win over lowly Tyldesley to seal the Division 4 East championship.
They started at a cracking pace, with clean line-out ball feeding the Valley back line and the irrepressible Jay McGuigan scoring.
The restart kick fell short, and from the resulting scrum Woodhouse broke clear to score out wide, Tommy McGuigan wide with the conversion attempt. T McGuigan then passed down the line via his brother to Evans who scored, with T McGuigan again unlucky with the conversion.
Hope’s backs showed more attacking flair via McGuigan and Edge, and a Tyldesley high kick was caught by Hodgson, who broke through to feed J McGuigan who scored his second.
Martin Spencer caught the restart and powered forward to evade the home tacklers and pass to T McGuigan who stepped inside the full back to score, with his brother converting.
Strong tackling from Bines denied Tyldesley, while the ball was stolen at the line-out and a flowing backs move saw Evans bag his second, with J McGuigan missing the conversion.
The ball worked down the line and back for J McGuigan to complete his hat-trick and convert to make it 41-0 at the break.
From the restart it was more of the same, with Armstrong and Bines driving forward and gaining ground, with skipper Hodgson in support forcing his way through to score.
Hope were caught napping from the restart and a Tyldesley breakaway try was converted.
Silcocks muscled his way through to score, converted by prop Allen, and then Silcocks set-up Booth for a strong drive and try, again converted by Allen. Further strong drives from Allen set-up a clever kick from Evans and saw support from Woodall, then Hutchinson, in turn passing to Woodhouse who set up Booth for his second.
Hope Valley’s final league game at home on Saturday is against Glossop 3rd XV (3pm kick-off).
