BUXTON Rugby Club is urging more youngsters to get involved in the sport by following in the footsteps of players such as junior star Adam Mears.
Despite having never touched a rugby ball prior to taking up the sport two years ago, Adam was last season awarded Buxton Rugby Club under-10’s player of the season award.
Coach Bill Purvis said the club was aiming to produce young rugby players that demonstrated teamwork, discipline, respect and commitment to the game - core values displayed by Adam during the past two seasons.
He added: “Adam and other youngsters in the under-10/under-11 squad are putting in some extra training over the summer holidays to make sure they are prepared and fit for the start of next season.
“Summer training is non-contact and fun. If you would like your child to play rugby in September, why not bring them along to meet the team during summer training and find out a bit more about the club and junior rugby?
“Summer training is held at the club ground in Harpur Hill each Sunday from 10.30am to noon. Sessions continue from August 19.”
Full training will begin on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings from September 23. A rugby fun day is also being planned for September 30, and will include support from Aviva Premiership club Sale Sharks.
