First win for Hope Valley on their travels

University of Salford Division 3 South

Lymm 3rd XV 0, Hope Valley 1st XV 18

HOPE Valley dominated their hosts from the start, continually sniping at the home side’s defence and gaining ground through full back Rawson, and Woodhouse at scrum half.

The pressure finally told, with Grayson on the wing bouncing through several Lymm tackles to score and make it 5-0 at half time.

Valley started the second half with intent, with Ryder and Hodgson making good breaks, and the hosts conceded a penalty which was kicked by McGuigan to extend their lead.

The visitors continued to pressurise Lymm, and were up quickly on their full back to gain territory. From this platform the pack pressurised, with skipper Bines scoring.

Lymm tried to break the Hope defence, but were stopped by Sampson who impressed at centre.

McGuigan kicked well to pin Lymm back, and Rawson made another break down the wing.

Lymm cleared for a Valley line, and the pack again dominated, with the industrious Wain in the back row forcing his way over for a try to seal Valley’s first away win of the season. Drew Sampson was man of the match.
