Buxton RUFC director of rugby Karl de Groot was pleased with his side after they ended the league season with a comfortable home win.
The Bucks overcame Rolls Royce 10-0 at Sunnyfields to secure a top-four finish in Midlands 4 East (North).
de Groot says he has been impressed with the relatively young squad and sees a bright future in the coming seasons.
“We had a few weeks off, so it was pleasing to round off our league campaign with such a comprehensive performance,” said de Groot.
“The scoreline perhaps doesn’t reflect our dominance throughout the match and to Rolls Royce’s credit, they defended well but then they had to.
“We’ve finished in fourth place, not where we targeted, but we have only been beaten by the two teams promoted and we’ve finished with the best defensive record in the league.
“It’s just our lack of bonus points that have really cost us promotion.
“What we have achieved this season is to establish a style of play that it is understood.
“We have a lot of young players, some new to the game, so absorption rates differ across the guys.
“It took us some time to get up to speed and the coaches have done a great job with the lads.
“This will see us start from a higher base level for the next season.”
This Saturday sees Buxton host Castle Donington (3pm) in a Derbyshire Cup semi-final and de Groot wants his side to round off the campaign with a cup triumph.
He added: “We have a home Cup semi-final in the Derbyshire Cup and a chance to round off the season with a finals appearance at Chesterfield.
“That would be a great end to the campaign.”
