BRITISH and Irish Lions legend John Bentley hosted a series of pre-season training sessions at Buxton Rugby Club recently.
A fast, aggressive winger, Bentley won four caps for England, and was a key member of the 1997 Lions tour to South Africa, culminating in a famous try where he single-handedly evaded almost the entire opposition team to score under the posts and set the Lions on the way to a great morale-boosting victory which ultimately saw them end the tour victorious.
Now working with Leeds Rugby and as Director of Rugby for Cleckheaton RUFC in Yorkshire, Bentley gave his time freely to Buxton, where he ran several training sessions focusing on space awareness, defence strategies and ball-handling skills in the contact zone.
The sessions were well attended by both players and spectators alike.
