Hope Valley Hawks 46, Dronfield Drifters 10

RUGBY league side Hope Valley Hawks secured their first win over neighbouring Dronfield Drifters at Castleton last weekend.

Valley started brightly, with Tommy McGuigan showing his usual trickery to get the first try, converted by brother Jay. Dronfield were soon level, exploiting a defensive error.

A good run by Orton freed J McGuigan, who chipped through for Brett Tharme-Loose to score in the corner.

T McGuigan scored next, wrong-footing the Dronfield defence with a high ball which was claimed by J McGuigan to score. Dronfield managed to breach the defence again to make it 18-10 at half-time.

J McGuigan added to his tally after the break, his brother converting, before a turnover saw a powerful run and try for Jack Silcocks. Further tries for Ethan Bagshaw, Orton and T McGuigan, the latter getting his hat-trick, completed the scoring.

Today (Saturday), Hope Valley entertain Mancunians at Castleton (kick-off 2.30pm).
