Buxton’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5K race took place last Saturday with a now customary good turnout.
Despite cold and blustery conditions, 82 runners turned out at what is becoming one of the area’s most popular running events.
The Senior men’s race saw a clean sweep for Buxton AC.
While Rob White took first place (16.47) with an unassailable lead, the battle for second and third place was much closer, with Jake Fearn (17.26) finishing just ahead of Ben Light (17.28).
The Senior women’s race was won by Stockport Harrier Rosa Chrystie-Lowe, in a time of 21.02.
Buxton AC’s Elizabeth Nocton took second place (22.46), while Gillian White finished in third (22.52).
The first junior finisher was George Smedley-Castle, in 18.49 (5th place overall).
He was followed by fellow Buxton junior Alfie Bailey (20.40) and 11-year-old Ethan Ollier of Staffordshire Moorlands AC (21.13).
The first female junior was Stockport’s Emma Chrystie-Lowe (23.29).
Meanwhile, Buxton AC juniors Amelia Newbould (23.41) and nine-year old Lauren Wilshaw (24.35) took second and third places respectively.
First male vet runner was Terry Fowler, in a time of 19.51, while Kate Ledin was first Female Vet in 23.25.
• The following day saw the Mow Cop Hill Race attract a field of 98 runners with its 1,200ft of ascent within a six-and-a-half-mile course.
Representing Buxton AC were Bryan McKenna (11th place), Paul Light (23rd), Peter Bailey (43rd) and Richard Goff (70th).
• The Next Pavilion Gardens 5K event will take place at 9am on Saturday May 9.
