“We're getting close to where we were back in March. Assuming we don't have any local lockdowns then we are looking forward to the future.

“We are in a better position than other team sports and by being sensible we think we can keep playing until this dreadful virus is sorted.

“We managed to play socially distanced doubles and people have turned up to our open days and took advantage of the membership offers.

“Our membership is about the highest it has been for a number of years. We are getting better at promoting ourselves and it is a sport that people can still play.”

Club bosses now hope that upward trend will continue with more casual players in the New Mills area taking up memberships.

“We get a few people who just want to play rather than be members,” added John. “We would encourage people to join because they get to play different members of the club and have access to coaching opportunities.

“By joining, you can play with a much wider range of people.”

The club has three all-weather tennis courts and offers coaching programmes for juniors and adults.
