Buxton Cricket Club first team skipper Matt Poole is looking forward to the upcoming season, despite last term’s struggles.
Buxton finished bottom of the pile in the PS Derbyshire & Cheshire League Division Two, winning just three games.
Ahead of the 2015 campaign, which begins on Saturday when they entertain Hollingworth at the Park, Poole says there is a squad in place to vastly improve fortunes at the club this season.
“Though the first team struggled last season, Buxton CC is in good heart,” said Poole.
“There is an excellent, hard-working committee in place and we have worked hard to make the Park an even more attractive ground to play at.
“There’s also a good number of promising juniors coming through.
“The number of players available has been really helped by putting out a third team regularly on Saturdays in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League.
“If we can squeeze some extra runs out of each first-team batsman, through better concentration, application and an unwillingness to surrender their wicket, there is no reason why we can’t win more games and have a good mid-table position this season.”
