They returned with a clutch of fantastic swims resulting in a raft of podium positions and a huge number of personal best times across all of the races and age ranges.

The Derbyshire County Championships is a huge annual focus for Buxton Swimming Club and competition head coach Andrew Stokes is enormously proud of the results on show from the two weekends.

He said: “The swimmers were brilliant!

“They have been preparing and training so hard over the last few months for this and I am so pleased with the results of every swimmer that competed.

“Of course there were some stand out performances, and I am so proud to say that some of the club’s swimmers are now county champions – something we’ve not seen for some time!

“But all of the swimmers who raced had to qualify to get into the championships, so just getting there was an achievement in itself.”

James Ralph achieved double gold in the 13-year-old category 800m and 1500m freestyle events as well as two bronze medals in the 200m and 400m freestyle.

Swimmer Chloe Montgomery White (12 years) achieved gold in the 400m individual medley and two silver medals in the 800m and 1500m freestyle.

Chloe Foster (18 years) achieved a gold in the 400m individual medley and a silver in each of the 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke races.

The club also saw swimmers Olivia Pope achieving a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Flo Harris-Wood achieved a silver medal in the 400m freestyle and Anwen Williams achieved a bronze in both the 400m and 50m freestyle. Bronya O’Wellen (12 years) achieved a bronze medal in the 400m individual medley.

“The club’s swimmers competed in around 150 races and, along with the medals achieved, it was great to see so many swimmers achieve personal best times for their races. Well done to them all,” added a Buxton Swimming Club spokesperson.
