Buxton’s Helen Thornhill impresses on England debut

Buxton Athletics Club’s rising start Helen Thornhill completed the dream of a lifetime when she competed for her country at the WMRA International Youth Cup Mountain Running competition in Bulgaria this weekend.

Teams from 15 Countries travelled to Smolyan, in the beautiful Rodopa Mountains, with boys and girls coming from Czech Republic, England, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, FYR of Makedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Turkey, Wales and hosts Bulgaria as they competed for the title of best youth mountain runner 2015.

Helen came an impressive 32nd overall, which was third of the six English girls in the GB team.

This is the latest achievement in a long list for Helen in her first season of competitive Fell Running.

A spokesperson for Buxton and District Athletics Club said: “We are extremely proud of Helen’s achievements, her hard work and dedication have really paid off and she is truly an inspiration to her peers and a credit to the Buxton coaches.”
