Two of Buxton Athletics Club’s finest showed their quality again in a strenuous but successful weekend to remember.
Sol Clark and Jason Bennett raced on consecutive days, but still produced terrific performances that reflected excellently on the highly-respected club.
Clark took second place and Bennett third in the monthly Pavilion Gardens 5k race, setting new personal-best times of 17.30 minutes and 17.32 minutes respectively.
The following day, Clark went on to finish third of no fewer than 350 runners in the Autumn Breaker 10k at Blackpool, while Bennett came home in seventh place out of 144 competitors in the Windgather Fell Race, which covers more than 13 scenic miles and 2,500 feet of ascent.
The Pavilion Gardens race was again won by Alasdair Campbell in a time of 16.41. First female was Tilly Lea in 21.40, followed by Amy Clark in 22.12 and Jen Johnson in 23.02.
Seventeen-year-old David Fryer-Winder was the first male junior home, clocking a time of 20.07, while Shannon Booth was the first female junior home in 24.22.
Also at Windgather, Buxton AC’s 12-strong team included strong performances by Ben Light (16th place), Bryan McKenna (25th), Nick Jones (51st) and Richard Bouglas (55th).
Next month’s Pavilion Gardens 5k free event will take place on Saturday, November 7 at 9 am.
