Buxton’s start to the season gets no easier as they entertain Birmingham Brummies’ in the National Trophy at Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday afternoon, 3pm.

The West Midlands outfit who won the league title in successive seasons’ in 2015-16 have again put together a powerful looking side headed by Tom Bacon, Mitchell Davey and Danyon Hume who form a solid heat-leader trio.

Layne Cupitt and Callum Walker provide good back up for the top three while at reserve teenage sensation Leon Flint is certainly ripping tracks up top scoring for the Brummies on Wednesday night in their home win over Kent with Arran Butcher completing the West Midland’s club’s septet.

The Hitmen will again use rider replacement to cover for the injured David Wallinger who sustained a broken foot in the meeting against Belle Vue at the National Speedway Stadium.

Team manager Josh Moss said:“It is going to be a very difficult meeting against Birmingham on Sunday and we will be doing our best to cover for Dave (Wallinger) with rider replacement for the time being after he broke a bone in his foot at Belle Vue last week.

“The boys still need time to adapt and establish themselves as home riders and hopefully that will come quickly enough.

“Birmingham who have once again assembled a very strong side with three real number 1’s and throughout their team with strong back up at 2 and 4 along with riders at reserve who are more than capable of scoring points as Leon Flint has been doing for them so far this season.

“The boys know that it is going to be hard but as long as they do their best and show us continual improvement that is all we can ask for.”
