THE FIRST of the season’s competition finals at Cavendish Golf Club took place last month, the Henriques Memorial Bowl - the medal-winners final.
This resulted in a three-way tie between George Bloor, Ian Middleton and Neil Bolton, all with net scores of 66. George was unable to take part in the play-off because of his county junior commitments, and Ian ran out the winner over Neil with a fine net score of 62.
The Aggregate Trophy, arguably for the most consistent golfer, also resulted in a tie, between Andrew Dean and Mike Sutton, each on a total of 396 for an average net 66. In the play-off, victory went to Andrew.
There was a good turnout for the Joint Captains’ Charity Day. The winners were professional Joel Dowland and Lynn Fielden with 44 points. Runners-up were Craig Hodgkinson and Matt Dickinson with 43 points, after a card play-off from Pete Butterwick and Simon Cornwell.
The evening social and auction produced a considerable sum for the two charities, Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.
