Third-placed Sosseh impresses on maiden cross-country outing

Buxton AC runners tackled the second event in the North Staffordshire Cross Country League last weekend.

On a muddy and rutted course at Staffordshire Common, the Club fielded full teams for the under-13 boys, Senior Ladies and Senior Men.

In the under-11 girls event, newcomers Sosseh Badje and Sasha Scragg had their first taste of cross-country and showed remarkable form, with Sosseh finishing third overall, and Sasha 21st.

Under-11 boy Leo Parker ran well to finish in 41st position, whilst in the under-13 category Elliot Meylan, Will Tighe and Lucas Parker packed well in 9th, 11th and 12th places respectively, giving the team third place overall.

Stephen Mellor represented the under-15 Boys and ran strongly to finish in 10th place, whilst Helen Thornhill was 26th in the under-15 Girls’ event.

In the under-17 boys Alfie Bailey finished in 18th position.

The senior Ladies fielded six club runners, with Rachel Chatwin impressing with her 11th-placed finish.

The senior Men’s event saw 260 runners take part, with Buxton’s Steve Watson posting a 19th placed finish.

Overall the team are currently placed fifth in the rankings, out of 18, in Division Two.
