There is snow stopping Emma

Emma Havenhand was the sole Buxton Athletic Club member to brave the snowy conditions and travel to Alsager to compete in the annual five-mile road race at the weekend.

Emma was rewarded with a personal best time of 40 minutes and eight seconds, and finished tenth in her age group.

Earlier this year, Emma competed in the weekly 5K series at Bramhall Park and finished with another personal best time of 25 minutes and 40 seconds, finishing ninth in her age category.

The North of England Cross Country Championships were held recently at Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Buxton’s Mark Pursell finished in 471st position from a field of over 1,000 runners. Mark is competing in the forthcoming National Cross Country Championships held at Parliament Hill, London.

On the fells, Pete Bailey and Dave Forshaw competed in the tough 11-mile Kinder Trial held out of Hayfield, finishing in four hours and 24 minutes.

l Wednesday February 22 sees the next running of the famous ‘Dream On Mile’ around the Pavilion Gardens, starting at 7.15pm on Broad Walk, and is the first in the club’s 2012 Championship series. Everyone welcome.
