Buxton 1sts started the new season at Alderley Edge in Division 4 of the North West Counties Squash League with a 4-1 success and 18 points.
After a difficult previous campaign, the squad was strengthened significantly over the summer.
Dan Mayers shared the first two sets against Amin Rawji, but then struggled against Amin’s drops and lost 3-1.
Ian Steeples, playing at number five after being promoted to the first team this season won 3-2, despite pulling a muscle in his back in the second game.
At 2-1 down he looked to be heading for certain defeat, but fought through the pain barrier, saved three match points in the fourth set and won the decider 15-6.
Captain Colin Andrews, playing at number two, Colin won the first two sets.
He allowed his opponent to take the next, but at 15-15 in the fourth two magical drops sealed the set and a 3-1 win.
Buxton number one Keith Tolley triumphed 3-1.
In the final match Buxton’s Gary Bramwell was one set and 10-2 up in the second before being pegged back to 1-1.
Bramwell battled hard to take the third set 16-14 and used his marathon training to effect in the fourth as his opponent tired to win it 15-10.
