Local athlete Kyle Fowler put in a solid performance at the Home Countries International, held at County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
Kyle represented a team from the Midlands, which was up against teams of elite athletes from around Great Britain, including Wales, Welsh Schools, Ulster, Scotland, Ireland, England and the North.
The former Buxton Community School pupil set off in around 40th position on the fast and flat four-lap, 7.2 kilometre course.
He put in a strong surge on the second lap to move up 12 places. His Midlands team responded, but could not keep the pace for long and by lap three Kyle had pulled away from all but one of his team-mates, the reigning Midland champion and international Tom Curr.
Kyle finished strongly to cross the line in a very creditable 16th position, helping the Midlands team to finish fifth overall.
