Snow and frost ensures that all six Buxton Hockey games are postponed

It was a frustrating weekend for Buxton Hockey Club as all six proposed matches failed to go ahead due to the weather.

Snow on the astro pitches meant the first team’s games against Ashby (Saturday) and Nottingham (Sunday), as well as the fourth and fifth team’s games, were cancelled.

The seconds’ trip to Derby also bit the dust while there was no play at Stockport Bramhall, who were scheduled to play host to Buxton thirds.

One club member did compete at the weekend however, with Buxton veteran Peter Danson turning out for Derbyshire’s over-60s against Khalsa HC (Warwickshire).

The game, which was staged at Belper, was a second round England Hockey Over-60s Cup tie.

Peter, playing in the centre of midfield, had a hand in both Derbyshire’s goals, but they lost 3-2 due to a Khalsa goal that should have been disallowed when the ball was hit chest-height from a first shot at goal at a short corner.

The Derbyshire veterans now play in the semi-final of the Plate competition next month.
