THE 31st Lomas Distribution Buxton Half Marathon was held on Sunday.
On a wet and windy day, 146 athletes took on the challenge of the gruelling 13.1 miles course.
It again followed its traditional route, starting from Buxton Opera House and taking in Axe Edge, Glutton Bridge, Ladmanlow, Brierlow Bar and Harpur Hill before finishing along the Promenade at the Pavilion Gardens.
Mark Powell, of Wigston Phoenix, led the field, and saw no opposition throughout. Despite the terrible weather, he won in a fantastic time of one hour, 14 minutes and 19 seconds.
Second place went to Tim Holling, of Belper Harriers, in a time of one hour, 23 minutes and 15 seconds, ahead of Malcolm Fowler, of Wilmslow Running Club, in one hour, 23 minutes and 48 seconds.
The first lady to cross the finish line was Matlock Athletic Club’s Christine Howard in one hour, 33 minutes and ten seconds, followed by Lisa Grantham, of Chester Tri Club, in one hour, 33 minutes and 43 seconds, and Angela Oldham, of East Cheshire Harriers, in one hour, 49 minutes and three seconds.
The first local runners were Paul Tutt, well-placed in ninth position in a time of one hour, 29 minutes and 14 seconds, and Hayley Errington in two hours and 27 minutes.
The race went ahead with the help of Paul Carvill, who offered his support this year, managing online entries and prizes.
Buxton Athletic Club also wish to thank High Edge Raceway who provided the lead car, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, Buxton 1st Scouts and Buxton Athletic Club who manned water stations and marshalled around the course.
