ENER-G Hockey League East Midlands 2
Buxton 1st XI 12, Long Buckby 0
Buxton hosted basement side Long Buckby in what proved to be a cakewalk for the home team.
A mismatch from the start, this was more like shooting practice for the Bucks and was a good opportunity to improve their goal difference.
Only the heroics of the Buckby keeper J Davie kept the score from being embarrassing.
Orritt opened the scoring, collecting the ball off Curzon and finishing with aplomb. Curzon got number two, stealing in at the far post from a Bedworth cross.
Orritt quickly got his second, timing his run to perfection to meet a P Jones reverse stick centre.
Lowton popped up on the edge of the box to add his name to the scoresheet, with a controlled slice into the bottom corner.
Just before half time B Meaton got the fifth, with a Curzonesque back post poach.
After the break the goals kept on coming. J Wilton latched on to a rebound from a Browett short corner, before B Meaton got his second of the afternoon following a goalmouth scramble.
Orritt then completed his hat-trick to take the score to 8-0, and set Curzon up to make it nine.
The Buxton defence of Bedworth, Jones, Stewart, Mather and keeper Balderstone had no reason to turn up as the ball never got out of the opponent’s half amid constant Buxton pressure.
The score soon hit double figures as the Meaton brothers combined, Ben shooting towards the far post only for Sam to throw a stick out and divert it in.
Orritt helped himself to two more, firstly playing a one-two with B Meaton, then running onto a Lowton through ball to finish with five.
All in all, an easy three points.
