Poor form continues for 1st XI

ENER-G Midland League East Midlands 2

Berkswell/Ballsall Comn 1st XI 2, Buxton 1st XI 0

POOR finishing was to blame as Buxton’s miserable run of form continued.

Berkswell piled on the pressure, closing Buxton down, and it was only a matter of time before the home team found the back of the net, M Gee pouncing on a loose ball after a goalmouth scramble.

Buxton were pinned back in their own half, but stayed disciplined and kept a good shape. As the first half drew to a close, top scorer Orritt was released from a pin-point J Wilton through ball. One-on-one with the keeper, he fluffed his lines.

The away side performed much better in the second half. Wilton, in particular, had an outstanding game in the centre of the park, with his range of passing and dribbling skills.

Early in the second half, Orritt again found himself one-on-one with the keeper. This time he managed to round the goalie, but his tame shot was easily cleared off the line. Later, good work in the ‘D’ from Orritt saw him on the byline, and his pushback to partner Browett should have been buried.

Buxton were made to pay for their wasted opportunities when Berkswell’s top scorer, J Davie, strode into the Buxton ‘D’ and scored with a reverse hit minutes from full time.

Buxton: D Balderstone (GK), J Stewart, D Bedingfield, S Lomas, W Mather (C), S Meaton, M Curzon, J Wilton, D Pathe, P Browett, W Orritt. Man of the Match: J Wilton.
