Buxton Athletics Club juniors represented Derbyshire in the 2015 UK Inter-Counties Fell Running Championships in Betws-Y-Coed last weekend.
Of the six Derbyshire athletes selected to represent their county, five train with Buxton Athletics Club; an outstanding achievement which puts Buxton as the premiere junior fell running club in Derbyshire.
The gruelling course took runners from the start and finish areas in the picturesque village of Betws-Y-Coed around nearby Forestry in the Snowdonia National Park, over a course similar to the one that will be used for the World Mountain Running Championships that will take place at the same venue in September.
Taking a podium position in the under-16s race was golden girl Helen Thornhill.
This is Helen’s first season competing on the fells but she is proving to be an outstanding competitor in this discipline.
Sophie Quince has also made the switch from track to fell this year and came a creditable 10th place in the under-18’s race.
George Smedley-Castle, another rising star in the Buxton AC fell squad ran a strong race to come in seventh position.
For the junior boys Louis Forshaw-Perring and Joe Upritchard wore their Derbyshire vests with pride to finish in 11th and 12th position in the under-16’s category, putting the Derbyshire team in fifth position overall.
Meanwhile on the track, the Buxton AC squad took part in match two of the Derbyshire Mini-league.
Outstanding performances came from Radim Poledne who posted second in the under-15 shot put and a third in the 100m sprint, Lauren Wilshaw and Jamie Barlow both fourth in the 80m and 600m respectively, Jamie Barlow a PB and third place in the 50m, and Isaac Parsons who won the Howler Javelin.
Nina Poledne came seventh in the shot put, her maiden event, along with Heather Wilshaw who also came seventh in the high jump.
