Last Saturday Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens was bathed in a sea of pink as runners at the monthly Gardens 5K event supported the special “Buxton in Bloom” edition of the race.
As part of the bid to win gold in the East Midlands in Bloom annual competition, the Gardens were decorated with scores of old running shoes decorated with plants, while runners dressed in many different items of pink clothing.
The race was won by 17-year-old Stockport Harrier Thomas Drabble in a time of 16.49.
Buxton AC took second and third places, with Ben Light in 17.49 and Jason Bennett in 17.52.
Winner of the women’s race was Jenny Johnson (Buxton AC) in a time of 22.21, followed by Fran Marshall (23.56) and Eleanor Oulsnam (24.13).
Kate Ledin continued her run of new records, this time smashing the club’s Vet-55 ten-mile record by nearly six minutes at the Nottingham ten-mile road race.
Kate completed the course in 77 minutes, ten seconds.
• The Buxton Carnival four-mile race will take place on July 11 at 1.45pm, preceding the town’s carnival procession.
Entries can be made in advance via the club website or on the day at the race HQ at the University of Derby Halls of Residence on Bridge Street.
