Dean Winstanley begins his assault on the PDC World Championships this weekend at Alexandra Palace.
The Buxton-based thrower takes on 2006 semi-finalist Wayne Jones on Sunday afternoon in the first round, with a provisional start time of 4pm.
Winstanley, 33, is aiming to make an impression during what will be his third taste of the event.
“I’ve got a good record against Wayne, but it’s all about what happens on the day,” he said.
“It’s about who takes their chances.
“When you get onto that stage you have to hold your nerve and I don’t want to go out at the first hurdle.
“I want to go on a good run and prove a point.”
Winstanley’s wife Lorraine takes part in the BDO Women’s World Championships, which begin next month.
