BUXTON Amateur Boxing Club has commenced its 2012-13 season with activity across a number of club shows and championships.
Newcomer Josh Chapman made a winning debut against Burslem ABC opposition at their home show. After a difficult first round, Chapman demonstrated heightened aggression, along with huge fitness and heart, to secure a deserved victory on points.
Jon Pickering kicked-off his campaign against strong Bridlington opponent Chris Boyes. This was a hard-fought contest over four rounds, with Boyes awarded the victory on points.
Adam Sircar faced an old foe in the form of Burslem lightweight Roweley. Despite a disciplined performance by Sircar, the tall and awkward style of his Staffordshire opponent made it difficult to land with any consistency and he was defeated on points.
Buxton cadet Josh Taylor demonstrated capability and aggression during a thoroughly entertaining and closely-fought contest in Hinckley, Leicestershire, narrowly losing out on points.
Liam Burke entered the National Novice Championship at 71kg and, upon successfully making the weight, received a bye through to the Midland Counties round of the competition. Jon Pickering entered the Clubs for Young People Championship at 70kg and was pitched against familiar opposition in the form of Chesterfield’s Cotril.
Looking to box at a high pace, Pickering landed with the more eye-catching work and looked on top throughout the contest, despite being made to work hard throughout. The victory means he will face old foe Sery in the East Midlands final.
