Last Saturday saw 92 runners take part in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens 5K.
The free monthly event attracted many first-time competitors alongside more seasoned athletes, many of whom set new personal bests for what is proving to be a very fast course.
In the men’s race, first home was Jason Burgess of Staffordshire Moorlands, in a time of 17.01.
Second home was Buxton’s Jake Fearn with a new PB of 17.10, followed in third place by Ben Light, equalling his PB of 17.23.
In the women’s race Buxton runner Emma Wentworth illustrated her current form by taking first place with a time of 21.06, over 40 seconds faster than her previous best.
Second and third places went to Buxton runners Jennifer Johnson (22.58) and Elizabeth Nocton (23.13), with both slashing their previous times.
First junior home was George Smedley-Castle (18.01), while first veteran, on his way back from injury, was Steve Watson (18.15).
Meanwhile a new Buxton AC Vet-55 record was set by Paul Light, with a time of 19.02.
The following day Buxton’s Jason Bennett took the Northern Veterans Championship Vet-45 title at the Bispham 10 Mile road race in Blackpool.
Out of a field of 274 runners Jason came home in 16th place with a time of 1.00.32.
Buxton AC’s annual 2012 Metre Race, instigated in Olympic year, forms part of the club’s own championship.
The fast circuit saw a great race between Jake Fearn and Rob White, with Jake just edging into first place at the line. Both runners clocked a time of six minutes and 16 seconds.
Ben Light took third place in a time of 6.38, while first female was Jo Bednall (8.13).
Meanwhile, entries are now open for the Lomas Distribution Buxton Half Marathon.
The race takes place on Sunday May 24.
