Medals and trophies aplenty as club toast successful championships

Students at New Century Taekwondo Club are celebrating after returning from a recent tournament with a raft of medals and trophies.

The club took a sizeable contingent to the Northern Championships, which were held at Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre in Stoke-On-Trent.

Club members that competed included Dion Doyle, who was awarded bronze in the patterns category. 
Paul Wedgwood scooped bronze in sparring, whilst in the same category Tomas Wedgwood won silver.

In the high kick Harley Doyle performed brilliantly to ensure a gold medal.

Alfie Wyatt impressed winning gold in the Little PUMA Top Draw and won bronze in his drill.

Sienna Redfern picked up bronze in the patterns category. Instructor Jonathan led the way as he grabbed gold in the destruction (breaking) category.

Other competitors that entered were included Kieron Martin, Shannon Doyle and Gary Bowen.

Instructor Jonathan Williams, of Taekwon-Do 4 Kicks which is part of New Century Taekwondo, reflected on the successful Championships saying: “Every one of my students did amazingly well and for some of them, it was their first ever competition.

“Each student gave it their all and I am so proud of everyone that entered.”

The club runs two classes every Wednesday out of St Thomas More Catholic School.

The first class is a well-attended ‘Little PUMA’s’ class, which is open to children aged 4-6 years old. This runs from 6.30-7pm. The second class runs from 7-8pm and is for ages 7 and above.
