Maddie Thompson and the rest of her Team GB colleagues kick off their quest for World glory today (Friday) in Canada.
Maddie, from Hope Valley, is part of the GB side that is taking part in the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship.
A total of 12 sides are in this year’s event - the biggest number that has ever competed.
Maddie and the rest of the squad jetted out to Canada earlier this week and have been encouraged by performances in pre-tournament training camps and matches.
The GB Women will be looking for an improvement on their showing four years ago when they finished sixth in the Birmingham-staged tournament - their best-ever finish.
They are in a tough-looking Pool B along with favourites Germany, hosts Canada, China, Japan and Brazil.
They kick off the event on Friday morning, when they take on Brazil at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
Maddie was part of the GB side that finished seventh at 2012 London Paralympics, and she also helped them achieve bronze at last year’s European Championships.
Later this year, the 19-year-old is due to begin studying at Worcester University.
