Buxton High Peak Triathlon Club member David Davidson received a pleasant surprise when he travelled down to Devon to complete a long-distance swim for charity. For he was joined by his daughter Nicola, who had secretly arrived from Sydney, Australia, where she lives.

Donning wet suits, David, of Great Longstone, and Nicola raised more than £500 for the Devon air ambulance by completing the 10km swim of the River Dart between Totnes and Dartmouth.

The route passed through some wonderful wooded valleys, chosen some years ago as the setting for the TV series, ‘The Onedin Line’.

Nicola recorded the fastest non-elite female time of the day, finishing in a remarkable two hours dead, followed by her dad just 15 minutes later.
