Glossop Judo Club star Eric Ham is set to round off a memorable year with an appearance at the Junior World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Eighteen-year-old Eric, who has already won a cluster of medals in 2015, has been selected for the Great Britain team for the championships, which take place next month.
More than 600 fighters from about 100 countries will converge on the IPIC Arena for the final, but most important, major event of the junior judo year.
Eric will face the world’s best U21 fighters and although much younger than many, he will be looking to wrap up his season on a positive note.
In preparation, he has also received a last-minute call-up to represent his country at his first senior European event, the European Open, which will be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow this coming weekend.
So far this year, Eric has won four medals on the International Judo Federation world tour, taking gold in Portugal and bronzes in Italy, Poland and Romania. He also more than held his own at the European Junior Championships in Austria.
Although he now trains full time at the British Judo Centre of Excellence, he remains an integral part of the club at Glossop.
