Buxton AC Members are reaping the benefits of a hard winter’s training over a range of distances, with a number of creditable performances posted last weekend.
Claiming the Veteran 45 club record for the 20-mile distance, Jason Bennett ran a PB time of two hours, eight minutes and 52 seconds and was 20th from a field of over 400 runners at Stafford on Sunday.
There was a close tussle for second and third club finishers, with Kev Mottram (2.39.20) just pipping Emma Wentworth (2.39.55).
Andy Lidstone got the chequered flag and a PB to boot at the Oulton Park Half Marathon, finishing in 1.36.46 in 100th place from a field of almost 700 runners, while Terry Fowler finished in 1.35.10 at the Cambridge Half Marathon.
Still on the roads, at the Trafford 10K, from a field of 1,000 runners, the first eight finished in sub-30 minutes demonstrating an especially good quality field.
First home for Buxton was Dan Feely in 42.24, while Sheila Bradley came home in 47 minutes.
Club members perform consistently well at the national Parkruns, and Rachel Chatwin was no exception when she claimed first female position at the Lyme Park run, finishing in 22.20 – a personal best on the hilly & testing course.
Rachel Dowle finished in a time of 31.02.
Meanwhile at the Cheadle Hulme Parkrun, Ben Light took first place on the course last weekend in a time of 20.37, pipping dad Paul Light who finished in third place in 21.38.
Two club members represented Derbyshire at the Birmingham Inter-Counties Cross Country event, Rob White and Alfie Bailey.
Rob finished the Senior Men’s 12K course in a time of 41.43 in 229th place, while Alfie competed in the under-20 Male race, an 8K distance, finishing in 33.17.
Seven Buxton AC runners competed in the Grindleford Gallop and first home was Frank Golden, training hard for the upcoming London Marathon, in three hours, 28 minutes and 39 seconds.
Richard Bouglas, Elizabeth Nocton (also training for the London), Bev Golden, Simon Moorhouse, Helen Brunt and Dave Forshaw finished the event.
This weekend sees the holding of the popular monthly Pavilion Gardens 5K event, starting at 9am from Broad Walk.
