Buxton AC’s Jason Bennett produced a fine run at the Snowdon International Mountain Race, to finish in 54th place out of an international field of over 600 runners.
The race takes a five mile route to the summit, climbing a total 3300 feet in the process.
This is followed by a gruelling five mile descent back to the finish. Jason completed the course in a time of one hour and 26 minutes.
Jason continued this form at the hilly Lyme Park Parkrun, claiming first place and a new age group record, with an impressive time of 18.48.
Fifteen-year-old Lauren McNeil from Buxton finished as first female (fourth overall) in a time of 20.44 to claim a new junior female course record.
Also finishing strongly the previous week, Paul Tutt took second place in a time of 20.34. Meanwhile, at the cross country Marple event, Ben Light finished in fourth place with a new course PB of 18.01. He was joined by dad Paul Light, who finished 20th, clocking 20.31.
The latest Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series race was held at Oakamoor, where Frances Bromley posted another fine finish, this time claiming third place in the women’s race.
Also running well, Sheila Bradley finished first in the Vet 55 category.
On the roads, three Buxton AC members competed at the Notts Five Mile Road Race. In a field of 300 runners, Sol Clark finished in 14th place, in 28.24. Jonathan Sewell (32.04) and Amy Wadsworth (35.45) completed the trio.
The next Pavilion Gardens 5K will be held at 9am on Saturday, August 8, from the Burlington Road end of Broad Walk.
The event is free and open to runners of all ages and abilities.
