Buxton Hockey Club’s first team were held to an entertaining 0-0 draw at home to Derwent.

The hosts had a good first half, creating most of the opportunities in the opening 35 minutes without finding the necessary penetration.

Orritt had a goal harshly disallowed and hit the post with another effort.

The second half was a more even-sided affair, with Derwent probably edging the chances as Buxton’s energy levels faded.

Robins in the Buxton goal made a few good saves from short corners, however there was little in the way of clear cut chances.

The following day, the firsts were beaten 7-2 by Coalville in the third round of the Vase competition.

It was the same result for the seconds, who lost to their Derby counterparts by the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, Buxton thirds lost 6-3 away at Alderley Edge 7 in a friendly that offered little positives.

The fourths overcame Lichfield Badgers A 4-2, coming from two down in the first seven minutes.

The fifths played out an entertaining eight-goal thriller with North Staffordshire Badgers, as they drew their friendly 4-4.

• Meanwhile, Buxton’s under-11s had a highly successful trip to Chesterfield to play in a mini-tournament.

The team scored 18 and conceded just two in the three games.

This included victories of huge winning margins, notably an 8-0 success in their final outing.
