Buxton Hitmen begin their 2015 campaign by visiting the Eddie Wright Raceway to face a National League Scunthorpe select side on Easter Monday (April 6).
Hitmen Team Boss Jason Pipe was keen to see his new team in action before the National League campaign and is delighted to have secured another prestige challenge alongside the home challenge against a Redcar Select the following week.
The fixture will be raced over 15 Heats and will take place after the League Cup tie between Scunthorpe and Sheffield, which starts at 3pm.
Pipe explained his thought process.
“Starting our league fixtures at the end of April this season, I thought it would give the lads a chance to blow away the cobwebs,” said Pipe.
“I jumped at the chance to take a Buxton side to Scunthorpe when Richard (Hollingsworth) told me of his plans to run National League Challenges on Bank Holidays in April and May.
“I would personally like to thank Richard and Gail and Rob Godfrey for allowing us to have this meeting so early in the season.
“We also have our home challenge meeting against Redcar on Sunday April 12, so hopefully the cobwebs will have well and truly gone by the time we come round to our first league meeting at home to Coventry on Sunday April 26.”
Pipe says that the meeting will be concentrated mostly on the youth aspect of the Hitmen’s ranks, giving the likes of Tony Atkin a rest before the new season begins.
Pipe added: “Only five of the 2015 Buxton 1-7 line up will be racing in this meeting.
“The reserve berths are filled by riders who will hopefully be featuring for Buxton’s Junior Hitmen in the MDL this season.
“Tony Atkin won’t be racing in this meeting as both Richard and myself see these meetings being a chance to give the younger riders a chance, with which Tony himself agreed.”
