ROBERT Branford finished with a maximum as Buxton Hitmen secured their second league point of the season away at Mildenhall Fen Tigers on Sunday.

Last season’s treble winners, who have struggled due to a changed team, mechanical gremlins and an injury to their number one rider Ben Taylor, returned to full strength for the trip to the Mildenhall Stadium.

Sunday was another promising meeting, with a maximum for Branford and the Fen Tigers never too far in front in the heat by heat scores. Despite the Hitmen eventually losing 47-43, they still managed to pick up their second National League point of the season.

The Hitmen, who are still looking for a home win, will face Mildehall again on Sunday, this time at Hi-Edge (3pm start). The team will also be in action over the weekend at Stoke.

Manager Jack Lee said: “Racing two days on the trot keeps your momentum going and your head in race mode, and will do the lads some good after having such a long break in fixtures.

“We are stealing a few points, now we just need to get a home win in the bag and we will be back in the game.”

Mildenhall 47: Cameron Heeps 12+3, Joe Jacobs 12+1, Daniel Halsey 10+1, Lewis Blackbird 6, Aaron Baseby 5+2, Mark Baseby 2, Jack Hargreaves 0.

Buxton 43: Robert Branford 15, Adam Allott 8, Luke Priest 7+1, Ben Taylor 5, Dean Felton 4+1, Paul Burnett 3, Ryan Blacklock 1.
